TCP (Tubing Conveyed Perforating) -  Pressure-Activated, Drop Bar & Time Delay

Reliance Oilfield Services designs and runs tubing-conveyed perforating (TCP) and mechanically initiated systems, pressure-activated, time-delay and coiled-tubing conveyed, so the guns fire on the planned interval, at the planned pressure balance, without wireline to surface. Certified blasters and local crews run the program across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.

Why Mechanical Perforating Instead of Wireline

Wireline remains the first choice for short intervals, accurate real-time depth control, and rigless work. Mechanical / TCP systems take over when one or more of these conditions show up:

Long intervals or large guns that would take too many wireline runs.

Highly deviated and horizontal wells where wireline will not reach.

Underbalanced programs that need the guns on depth first, then a bleed or surge before detonation.

Completions where the guns deploy via the work string or production string, packer set, test, then fire.

High pressure and hostile environments, H₂S, CO₂

TCP Firing Systems

Drop Bar: A bar dropped from surface, impacts a mechanical firing head. Hydrostatic then drives the firing pin. Best in vertical and moderately deviated wells with clean tubing. Roller bars help in higher angle.

Pressure-Activated Firing Heads: Pressure-activated - applied tubing or annulus pressure shears a calibrated pin set and launches the firing pin. Utilized in highly deviated and horizontal wells, and or coiled tubing.

Time-Delay Firing: The head starts on a time delay. Surface pressure is bled or the well is surged so the guns detonate at the planned underbalance, not at the actuating pressure.

Coil Tubing: Pressure activated firing head. The same heads run on coiled tubing for reach that jointed pipe will not give (toe perforation and horizontal laterals).

Safety and Execution

Certified blasters plan the firing sequence. Hang-fire and drop-bar recovery follow Alberta explosives recommended practice, including retrieving the bar before the gun comes to surface. The same Western Canada fleet supports the work with local crews across Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories.
